ATCL seals deal to train Nigerian pilots

TANZANIA: AIR Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ibom Airlines Limited of Nigeria to train the latter’s pilots.

ATC Managing Director, Engineer Ladislaus Matindi confirmed over the weekend that they signed the MoU with the Nigerian airline that recently purchased a new Airbus A220 for commercial service.

He said that ATCL has provided its two senior pilots, who will be responsible for practically training the Ibom Air pilots and pilot teachers for six months.

“ATCL pilots will be responsible for providing practical training and ensure that pilots and their teachers have reached the standards required to fly the planes,” he said.

Eng Matindi added that Ibom Air will pay ATCL the training costs for the entire period of the agreement. The agreement has been reached after ATCL demonstrated long-term experience of owning Airbus A220- 300 aircraft and being trusted with the level of competence of its pilots.

“The training is aimed at building capacity for Ibom Air pilots who will fly Airbus A220-300 aircraft. ATCL has many years of experience of operating and flying Airbus compared to Ibom Air who have just embarked using such aircraft,” he added.
