Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) has launched a discount offer targeting Tanzanian students who are returning to China for their studies.

Student travelling to China will now be required to pay only 2,100 (approximately to 4.865m/-) instead of 3,800 to 6,500 USD dollars.

Breaking the good news on Friday, Tanzania Ambassador to China, Mbelwa Kairuki, the ATCL’s decision came following the many complaints raised by students who claimed that they can’t afford transport costs.

“Many students had informed the Embassy that they will not be able to afford transport cost… costs are high and in fact others are even higher than school fees. We have shared this with various authorities here in China and at home…So now I’m happy to inform you that Air Tanzania has decided to offer a discount to students,” Ambassador Kairuki said in an audio clip shared to various social media platforms.

He added that the new fare will also cover other necessary issues, such as the cost of staying in quarantine in Tanzania before the trip and the cost of Covid-19 tests.

Elaborating, the Ambassador said, students who had already started their studies will be required to show evidence that they have a Chinese visa (student visa) and their university ID.

For new students, he added, will be required to show a Chinese visa and an admission letter or entry permit.

“Air Tanzania flight makes a trip to China once a week, it leaves Dar es Salaam every Sunday and here in China it enters Guangzhou from Monday morning,” he added.
