ATCL boss scoops prestigious regional award

FINALLY, the maintenance to the two grounded planes of the Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) is over and they will be brought back to the country this month.

Meanwhile, the company’s Managing Director Engineer Ladislaus Matindi has scooped the ‘Africa’s Most Respected CEOs award’.

Briefing reporters at the 47th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) yesterday over the mentioned successes Eng Matindi described the award as a “win for the entire staff at the company.”

He said ‘Africa’s Most Respected CEOs award he bagged recently signifies that stakeholders have appreciated ATCL’s contributions in the industry as he thanked his team for the recognition.

“I don’t say I’ve been chosen, instead we’ve been chosen because behind me there were people who enabled me to be seen. This is due to the contribution we are collectively making in the aviation industry,” ATCL czar added.

Explaining over completed maintenance of the two planes, he said engine makers have completed the task of rectifying faults experienced in the airbus’ A 220 engine, which did not affect only ATCL but all companies, which purchased such planes.

“This is good news to us. In the mid or end of July, our capacity of providing air services will increase. Demand is high for instance we have three flights to Mwanza but demand is beyond that…and Dodoma as well,” he told reporters at ATCL’s pavilion.

Currently, according to ATCL boss, the airline has 12 planes as it expects to acquire three more including Boeing 737 Max and Dreamliner.

Engineer Matindi added that until September, this year, all its planes will be in the sky, a move that would boost the company’s capacity of reaching more destinations.

“Our customers will be free enough to choose which time they want to fly,” he added.

On the newly acquired cargo plane, Engineer Matindi said all arrangements including training of pilots and permits have been secured.

He said the 54-tonne cargo plane will start providing services by 28th this month and destinations will be Mumbai and other parts of India, Lubumbashi, Lusaka, Harare, Nairobi and Entebe.

Additional destinations are Kinshasa and specifically Lagos to cater the needs of Western Africa.

He welcomed the business community travelling to different parts of the world to share their opinions on how the cargo plane will reach their expectations.

He said ATCL is participating in the 47th trade fair to showcase their services for their esteemed customers to understand their services and get feedback from them for improvement of the airline’s services.

Local traders and their counterparts from 16 countries are showcasing their services and products at Sabasaba grounds as the number of visitors keeps increasing daily.
