Archbishop Ruwaich reminds couples to obey marriage vows

DAR ES SALAAM Roman Catholic Church Archbishop Reverend Jude Thadeus Ruwaichi has reminded married couples to respect marriage vows and stop divorcing arbitrarily.

“The phrase ‘till death do us apart’ means allowing nature to take its course, you should not just decide to divorce,” Archbishop Ruwaichi appealed.

He made the call in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday during his sermon at mass to mark the 10th anniversary since the Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel RC Church in Bunju became a parish where among other things 52 couples tied their knots.

“There are four pillars of marriage within the RC church which are love, unity, trust, and eternity,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Tanzania Media for Community Development (TAMCODE), called upon couples to shun away from domestic violence in all of its forms.

TAMCODE Executive Director Rose Ngunangwa made the call while moderating an after mass ceremony at the church where 500 worshippers, including married couples, attended.

“One of the major challenges that are prevalent in our country is a situation whereby couples abuse each other physically. Such acts have been causing disabilities among couples or even deaths; as a result it affects children’s future.  You should seek divine power and find a way to solve your marital problems amicably rather than killing,” said Ngunangwa.

She also used the platform to remind the worshippers to protect their children against child marriage, saying marrying them off at a young age deprives them their right to education.

“Protect your children from female genital mutilation, early and unintended pregnancies and sexual abuse,” said Ngunangwa.

The day coincided with the 10th anniversary of one of priests, Father Dominic Somola.

During the 10 years, the Parissh has recorded several achievements, one being to shift from a very tiny church structure and managed to construct a ‘Basilica’ where upon completion it will accommodate 2000 worshippers.
