AMDT supports women in agribusiness

AGRICULTURAL Markets Development Trust (AMDT) and other partners have launched a new mentorship programme to support youth and women in agribusiness.

Speaking during the launch held in Dodoma last week, the Executive Secretary of National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC) Beng’i Issa thanked AMDT and other partners for launching the 10 months mentorship programme for 2022/23.

She said the programme which involves four mentors and 24 mentees is aimed at exchanging experience of improving business between experienced entrepreneurs and the upcoming ones.

According to her, women and youth are catalysts of development in any nation hence they are not supposed to remain behind in economic improvement.

Young entrepreneurs in the agriculture sector are facing a lot of challenges hence it was important for different stakeholders including AMDT in collaboration with the government to come up with different strategies aimed at building their capacity so as to get out of poverty.

The AMDT, Chief Executive Officer, Mr Charles Ogutu, said during the event that the organisation is launching the second phase of the programme after registering success in the first stage.

He said the results of the pilot phase show that 55 per cent of participants recorded good success.

He thanked NEEC for being ready to work with AMDT in reaching entrepreneurs wherever needed.

The AMDT has been established by Denmark, Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland as a long term facility to address challenges experienced in past markets developing initiatives in Tanzania.
