Airtel Tanzania pays over 73bn/- in dividend to government

DAR ES SALAAM: Airtel Tanzania has handed over 73bn/- to the government as dividend payout for the 2024/25 fiscal year, positioning itself as the second largest contributor during this year’s Annual Dividend Day.
The event, held at the State House in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, was organised by the Treasury Registrar’s Office and graced by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Speaking during the ceremony, President Samia commended both public and private institutions for their ongoing contributions to the nation’s development efforts. She revealed that a total of 1.28tri/- in dividends had been collected this year alone.
“I extend my congratulations to all dividend contributors this year. Today’s event emphasises the commitment of institutions to our national development goals. It is a clear demonstration of the strength of public-private partnerships,” said the Head of State.
She noted that Annual Dividend Day would be institutionalised to promote transparency and strengthen engagement between the Government and private investors, as part of efforts to achieve inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Airtel Tanzania Plc and its sister company, Airtel Money Tanzania Limited, have jointly contributed over 280bn/- in dividends to the Government since 2019. With the Government holding a 49 per cent stake in Airtel Tanzania, the company remains a model of impactful public-private investment.

Speaking after handing over the cheque, Airtel Tanzania Board Chairman Mr Eliudi Sanga reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the Government’s strategic priorities.
“Airtel Tanzania is proud to be a trusted partner in the country’s development journey. From digital infrastructure to inclusive access, we are contributing meaningfully to the digital economy,” he said.
Echoing the sentiment, Airtel Tanzania Managing Director Mr Charles Kamoto highlighted the company’s focus on fostering inclusive growth and digital empowerment.
“Our dividend contribution is a firm statement of our commitment to Tanzania’s sustainable growth. It reflects how alignment between Government policy and private sector innovation can fast-track progress in the digital economy,” said Mr Kamoto.
He reiterated Airtel’s dedication to continued investment in network expansion, affordable smart devices, and digital platforms aimed at improving access across the country.
Annual Dividend Day serves as a national platform to recognise institutions contributing to public revenue, while promoting accountability and responsible use of government resources.
