Airtel Tanzania launches solar-powered tower to enhance communication services in Morogoro

MOROGORO: AIRTEL Tanzania has launched a new communications tower in Amini Village, Morogoro, as part of its strategy to expand connectivity services in rural areas. The tower is powered by solar energy, aligning with the company’s commitment to environmentally friendly technology while ensuring sustainable access to network and voice services.

The tower is expected to strengthen communication and internet services, increase digital inclusion and open new economic opportunities for youth, farmers, and entrepreneurs in the surrounding areas. The launch was received with excitement by residents and government leaders, highlighting the importance of communications infrastructure in driving community development and digital business growth.

In Amini Village, Kinole Ward, Morogoro District, the launch of the solar-powered communications tower has been described as a catalyst for economic transformation for local residents. Speaking during the launch, Airtel Morogoro Regional Manager, John Tungaraza, said:
“Reliable communications will help spice crop farmers and other producers access market information in real time, track prices, connect with buyers, and add value to their produce through digital platforms. Improved connectivity in Amini Village will unlock more opportunities for digital business and financial services for the community.”

The tower will accelerate business activity by simplifying electronic transactions, improving access to new customers, and supporting online financial operations, while the use of solar energy ensures service continuity even when grid power is unavailable. This initiative is expected to boost productivity, household income, and participation in the digital economy.

Additionally, Airtel Tanzania has launched another communications tower in Mipango, Dodoma. Speaking at the event, Airtel Dodoma Zone Manager,  Kemirembe Msiima, said: “These towers, including those powered by solar energy, are a major step toward ensuring reliable connectivity even in areas facing electricity challenges. A strong network will enable youth and farmers to access market information, weather updates, modern farming practices, and fully utilize digital economy opportunities.”

The launch of these towers, including solar-powered sites, is part of Airtel Tanzania’s ongoing strategy to connect communities nationwide through a strong, reliable, and environmentally friendly network that supports economic growth, digital inclusion, and expanded opportunities for youth.
