Airetl vows ‘partnership’ support to TAS
DAR ES SALAAM: Airtel Tanzania has promised to partner with the Tanzania Association of Albinism (TAS) in addressing some of their needs, especially in accessing the former’s services in telecommunications.
Taking the stance in Dar es Salaam today, Airtel Public Relations and Corporate Communications, Jackson Mmbando, while sponsoring an event to provide them with sun screens among other paraphernalia, which protect them against the sun dangers, said they form part of the vulnerable group the telecom gives special attention.
He further said that the firm is ready to provide them with Airtel lines, which would enable them to communicate and get other services as any ordinary Tanzanian.
That comes at the background of the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Peninsula getting sponsorship from Airtel Tanzania, Azam, Pepsi and Prima among others in providing some TAS members in the city with protective measures including sun protection ointments to lessen their risks of developing cancer due to absence of melanin in their skin, which provide natural protection against harmful UV radion.
In the awareness campaign, Mr Mmbando noted that the group deserves special attention in their Corporate Social Responsibility that ploughs back in employment generations and healthcare support, where most albinos require assistance.
Going by 1/1429 Albinism ratio to 58,000,000 Tanzanian population of (World Bank data 2020), people living with albinism in Tanzania are estimated at
40, 588, which is a significant group not to be left alone.
Welcoming the support, the club’s President Nazeer Tajudin said Airtel will always remain their partner in seeing into it that Tanzanians of all walks are reached with their services.
