ABSA Bank recognizes flower traders on Valentine’s Day

DAR ES SALAAM: In an effort to recognize the contribution of small-scale entrepreneurs in the flower trade, Absa Bank Tanzania has engaged with these traders and offered motivation as part of this year’s global Valentine’s Day celebrations.
Speaking at the event held on Monday at Mbuyuni, Namanga—a renowned flower trading hub in Dar es Salaam—Absa Bank Tanzania Citizenship Manager, Ms. Abigail Lukuvi, said the bank’s initiative aimed to spread love and acknowledge flower traders, a group often overlooked despite their vital role in distributing love through flower sales.
“As you may know, our brand’s new promise is ‘Your story matters.’ This is why Absa decided to extend the spirit of Valentine’s Day in a unique way by visiting small-scale traders at Mbuyuni. We want to show that their stories hold great value and importance to us,” said Ms. Lukuvi.
She added that flower traders play a significant role in helping people express love, yet they are rarely acknowledged. “These traders spend their entire day selling flowers to help others express love, but they themselves are often forgotten. Absa wanted to ensure they feel appreciated and embraced,” she noted.

One of the flower traders, Robert Peter Byamukama, expressed gratitude for the visit, noting that this year’s business performance had improved compared to the previous year, attributing the growth to increased awareness of flower gifting.
“We appreciate Absa Bank for remembering us and visiting our businesses. This reassures us that the bank values us, and it truly affirms their slogan, ‘Your story matters,’” he said.
Valentine’s Day, celebrated globally on February 14, is marked by the tradition of lovers exchanging various gifts, including greeting cards and red flowers.
