DC lauds telecom firm for advancing digital inclusion

MWANZA: The Ilemela District Commissioner Mr Hassan Masala has commended Yas Tanzania for advancing digital inclusion and driving economic empowerment across local communities.
This recognition highlights the vital role that innovative, tech-based solutions play in creating equitable access to opportunities and fostering long-term development.
“Public good has taken center stage as Yas set an example of how technology can be harnessed to benefit communities. Lake Zone residents are the true beneficiaries of today’s achievements, which go beyond corporate milestones to mark meaningful victories in digital inclusion—bringing them faster, more affordable, and more reliable digital services,” DC noted.
Mr Masala made the remarks while officiating a stakeholder engagement event in Mwanza, hosted by Yas in partnership with its innovative financial service platform, Mixx by Yas.
During the event, Yas Lake Zone Director, Mr. Joseph Mutalemwa, recognized the unwavering support of stakeholders and customers throughout the company’s transformation journey following the rebranding of Yas and Mixx by Yas in November last year.
“Since unveiling our new identity, we’ve made remarkable strides not only at the national level, but right here in the Lake Zone,” he said.
He noted further, “We’ve grown our customer base across all age groups, enhanced our communication infrastructure, and empowered communities with reliable, high-quality digital services powered by 4G technology.”
According to the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), Yas Tanzania’s subscription market share grew by 28.5 percent, with active subscriptions rising from 50,915 in January to 56,568 by March this year.
Mr Mutalemwa added that, through strong partnerships with the government, private sector, and local communities, Yas and Mixx remain firmly committed to advancing Tanzania’s digital inclusion agenda.
For instance, Yas has expanded its customer service reach by establishing Yas Express stores in every district across the Lake Zone.
“At Yas, we believe it’s time for Tanzanians to unlock their potential through smart, accessible, and affordable solutions. We’re committed to continuously listening to our customers and innovating to create a brand that makes a real impact on their daily lives,” he said.
