Digital growth transforms lottery industry

DAR ES SALAAM: THE rapid growth of digital platforms, fuelled by increased internet access and widespread smartphone adoption has transformed the lottery industry, offering new opportunities for engagement and accessibility.
The Director of Ithuba Tanzania, Mr Kelvin Koka, said after the National Lottery signed strategic partnership with HaloPesa that it will broaden the reach of lotteries, driving increased participation and revenue.
“As digital infrastructure continues to advance, online lottery platforms are integrating cutting-edge technologies to enhance user experience and ensure secure transactions,” he stated.
Ithuba has been officially appointed the operator of the National Lottery for an eightyear term with an initial investment of 20 million US dollars (50bn/-).
The Tanzania National Lottery is set to distribute up to 120bn/- in prizes throughout this year, creating over 2,000 jobs across the country.
The shift from traditional lottery systems to online formats has not only enhanced accessibility but also diversified the range of lottery offerings, making participation more convenient for users worldwide.
The Global Online Lottery Market was valued at approximately 335 billion US dollars in 2023 and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5.2 per cent from 2024 to 2032.

HaloPesa Deputy Managing Director, Mr Magesa Wandwi said this integration enhances the digital experience for Halotel and HaloPesa users.
The National Lottery of Tanzania aims to boost economic development, with proceeds funding important socio-economic initiatives. This partnership allows nationwide participation without the need for physical tickets.
