Business firms reap from Italy-Tanzania forum

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and Italy have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic cooperation through ongoing the 4th Italy-Tanzania Business and Investment Forum in Dar es Salaam.

The two-day forum aimed at deepening trade and investment ties between the two nations is taking place at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in the city.

Speaking during the forum’s official opening in the city today, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo said the forum has played a crucial role in fostering the two-nation’s economic partnership since its inception.

Adding, he said the Tanzanian government is committed to addressing investment challenges, including tax reforms to create a more conducive business environment.

He further explained that President Samia Suluhu Hassan recently directed a special committee led by Ambassador Ombeni Sefue to review tax regimes following concerns that they pose a barrier to trade and investment. The reforms will facilitate a more investor- friendly environment and improve capital flow.

Director of International Trade and Economic Diplomacy, Ambassador John Ulanga said economic diplomacy serves as a bridge for creating business opportunities and fostering innovation.

He said the forum provides a platform for collaboration, innovation, and mutual prosperity, which will strengthen economic development and mutual growth between the two countries.

Director for Economic Internationalisation at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Fabrizio Lobasso said Italy and Tanzania share common values in education, technology, and skills development.

Moreover, he emphasized that through dialogues and cooperation, the two countries can take significant steps toward a prosperous future.

Trade Commissioner at the Italian Trade Agency, Claudio Pasqualucci said he believed the forum will create more structured trade relations and businesses from the both countries.

He said Italian companies are actively engaged in various sectors across Africa, including infrastructure, and the forum provides a platform to generate more opportunities and strengthen partnerships.

Ambassador of Italy to Tanzania H.E. Giuseppe Coppola said Africa’s vast natural resources present numerous investment opportunities, and the forum serves as a platform to improve business infrastructure and modernize agriculture.

He said one key focus is enhancing technology and quality standards for Tanzanian businesses, particularly in packaging and value addition that can enable them to compete effectively in international markets.

The 4th Italy-Tanzania Business and Investment Forum that started today and l climaxes tomorrow in the city, focuses on key sectors such as agro-tech, the blue economy, green infrastructure, and healthcare.

The forum has brought together policymakers, investors, and industry leaders to explore new business opportunities.
