Mzize: All applause to coach Suleiman

DAR ES SALAAM: TAIFA Stars striker, Clement Mzize, delivered an impressive performance in Tanzania’s 2-1 victory over Madagascar, earning the title of Man of the Match.
Following the game, Mzize praised his coach, Hemed Suleiman, for his crucial role in guiding the team through their successful campaign in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024. In the post-match interview, Mzize expressed gratitude for the opportunity to shine on the field, reflecting on their journey thus far.
“I thank God for this opportunity to be in this place and to be chosen as Man of the Match. It’s great that we continue moving forward in the competition. We hope to go far in the African Nations Championship 2024,” he said.
Mzize is the third Taifa Stars player to win the Man of the Match award, following Feisal Salum in the opening Group B match against Burkina Faso and Mudathir Yahya in the second match against Mauritania.
In the interview, Mzize went on to highlight the influence of Coach Suleiman, stating, “Special thanks to coach Suleiman. He has been like a parent guiding us through these competitions. He has always fought for us and inspired us to reach this far. He deserves all the applause for my success and our victories in each game.” This win marked a significant moment for Tanzania, as they maintained their unbeaten streak over three matches, proudly sitting atop Group B with nine points.

With this victory, Tanzania became the first of 19 nations to secure a spot in the quarter-finals, leaving group rivals Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Madagascar and the Central African Republic to vie for the remaining slot.
Despite Madagascar’s resilience, characterised by their physicality and tactical organisation, Mzize’s sharp attacking prowess ultimately made the difference.
“We were able to move in the match despite the strength of the Madagascar team and its players. We managed, with difficulty, to reach the opponent’s goal and score two goals,” he remarked.
Reflecting on the significance of Tanzania’s achievement in the tournament, Mzize noted, “Yes, we are lucky to participate in this competition. We have never reached the knockout stages of the CHAN before, and this time we managed, deservedly, to get past the group stage. Thanks to everyone and to the fans who gave us the drive to reach the quarter-finals.”
