THE Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) technical committee yesterday unveiled four swimmers, who will represent the country in the Commonwealth Games to be held in Gold Coast, Australia in April, 2019 This was confirmed to the ‘Daily News’ by TSA Secretary General, Ramadhan Namkoveka who named the selected swimmers as Celina Itatiro, Sonia Tumiotto, Hilal Hilal and Collins Saiboko.
Namkoveka said the swimmers have been selected basing on their impressive shows in various national and international level events including the recently held CANA zone III championship staged in Dar es Salaam.
“The selected athletes are also among the national team members who are being prepared for the incoming 2020 Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan,” he said.
Adding, the TSA boss urged coaches who are training the swimmers to double up their efforts in order to make them meet the qualifying marks as governed by the world governing body (FINA).
Furthermore, Namkoveka said the swimmers are undergoing intensive training whereby Hilal is in Dubai while Collins Saliboko and Sonia are in US training at St Felix School.
He said Celina Itatiro is in the country training at Dar Swimming Club under the supervision of coaches Kanisi Mabena and Michael Livingstone.
