‘Bad light’ cancels regional golf meet matches at DGC

THREE third round matches of the East African Golf Challenge Trophy 2017 at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) were cancelled yesterday due to bad light.

Tournament official Farayi Chitengwa said that delayed matches will now be played today morning before the final round. “The delayed matches will resume tomorrow (today) in the morning,” Chitengwa said.

However, all other second and third round battles were able to be completed and ‘it actually turned out to be a beautiful day. The postponed matches in the four-ball better ball format include that which pitted Tanzania national team Captain Victor Joseph, who partnered Saif Mcharo.

They were leading one up against Ugandan Daniel Baguma/ David Kamulindwa with four holes to go. Prosper Emanuel partnering Richard Mtweve were also leading by two shots as three holes remained before dark over Ethiopian Elias Oboye and Ephrem Glasses.

However, Vice-captain Isaac Wanyeche/Abbas Adam lost to Kenyan Samuel Njoroge/Dennis Saikwa. Aman Saidi partnering Jay Nathwani were the only evening winning match for Tanzania after they beat Abdul Djabar/Mousa Harerimana of Burundi 4/3.

In the morning foursomes format, Tanzania won one out of four matches to give Kenyans chance to lead by half point after collecting 9. Tanzania was second with 8.5, Uganda 7, Rwanda 5.5, Ethiopia 3.5 and Burundi 3.5.

The only team that won foursomes format for Tanzania in morning round was a promising pair of Seif Mcharo and Richard Mtweve. The pair recorded a massive 8/7 victory over Rwandan James Ndikumana and Allon Nyonkuru Captain Victor Joseph, who was partnering with Amani Saidi, found the going tough after losing to Ugandan Aldof Muhemuza and Otile Ronald 2/1.

It was the same to Vice-Captain Isaac Wanyeche who was partnering with Abbas Adam, as they were beaten by Kenyan Mike Kisia and John Karichu, while Jay Nathwani and Prabvir Singh lost 3/2 to Ethiopian Aklilu partnering with Ephraim Glassie.

The tournament enters its final day today with another single match play to determine the champion.
