Simba midfielder Mafisango dies in road accident

 

Dar es Salaam city on Thursday woke up to sad and shocking news involving death of Simba international midfielder, Patrick Mafisango Mutesa.

A Rwandese international player has died in a car accident around 4.00 this Thursday morning was trying to avoid a cyclist but landed a ditch and died on the scene.

Simba players were seen at Muhimbili National Hospital in a solemn mood, apparently struggling to come to terms with the reality that their colleague, who had been with them a day before, was no more.

The club chairman Ismail Aden Rage, who is in Tabora, expressed disbelief and shock at the news.“It is a major blow to our team,” said Rage, adding: “We are in shock and disbelief. We have informed the Rwandan Embassy to arrange for his burial.”

Rage said the player was instrumental to his team that reached this year’s penultimate round of the CAF Confederation Cup and that the club had started talks for a possible move to a Chinese club.

The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) also expressed sadness following the untimely death, with the federation’s spokesperson Boniface Wambura saying his death was a huge loss to the game of football saying he had proved to be a committed player throughout his career.

The web also went abuzz with news of the sudden death of Mafisango as hundreds of his stunned fans across the country poured their grief on social network sites.  The news dominated chat rooms (facebook) and spread far and wide like bushfire.

Mafisango has been an influential midfielder for both Simba SC and Rwanda National team, Amavubi. He was slated to fly to Kigali to start preparations for their world cup qualifiers match. Stay online for more updates ….
