TEN emerging designers from across the country have been picked by a panel of judges to compete in 10th Swahili Fashion Week Washington finals to be held in the city in early December.
Its is officially known as Benbella Emerging Designer Competition and the designers will showcase their collections on the event scheduled to commence in December 1st to 3rd at the National Museum in Dar es Salaam. Speaking with Sunday News, the Swahili Fashion Week Project Manager, Glory Urassa said that “The 10th Edition of Washington Benbella Emerging Designer Competition has been one of its kind.
The 10 finalists have been picked on merits and are the one who will make this year’s event a huge success.
“ All eyes and ears of fashion fans are wide open for their first ever designed attires during the 10th Anniversary celebration. I urge everyone to come and witness the fashion world of these newest designers in the fashion industry,” he said.
The winners of the competition are Liberatha Alibalio, Charity Nyaimaga, Maryimmaculate Gervace, Emmanuel Kisusi, Agness Sixbeabeatus, Mohammed Juma, Anjali Borkhataria, Edina Ibrahim, Gisela Kaguo and Jackline Ottaru, who also managed to impress the panel of judges with their unique sketches and quality of fabrics, said Urassa.
This year’s judges panel which is made up of different fashion enthusiasts such as Designers Jamilla Vera Swai and Samuel Zebadayo alongside fashion stylist Rio Paul, overlooked over 30 entries that were applied by different emerging designers in the country.
Moreover, the Fashion Coordinator of Swahili Fashion Week, Lightness Kitua told Sunday News: “We are proud to present another exceptional year of Swahili Fashion Week Emerging Designer Competition and look forward to seeing our finalists showcasing their work on a world stage.
